This is a very true statement about the possible stories! I'm sure you know how much I love a narrative, and this seems perfect! It's just a shame that the mechanics felt so dry that there wasn't much of a reason to go into detail with the storyline.

I'm curious about the coin-generating mechanism, too. Never did I feel like I was putting anything back into the economy, and the number of coins really limited what I could sell. Seems like the payoff for defeating the monsters is low, though I can understand it if that's for balance. Still, so much of this game just feels like a lost opportunity!

I think it's only recently that art designers for games have noticed that distinguishing things just by colour really isn't acceptable any more. Even for those of us with good colour vision, since sometimes we play under "fashionable" lighting… (It wouldn't seem hard to add a line of text, so that the card backs said "BQ item", "BQ market", etc.)

That combination of young hero with ancient armour tells a story. "This armour is older than I am!" "This armour is older than your country, and has been worn by many great heroes." "All of whom are now dead?" "Well, yes, but they didn't all die while wearing it…"

In the standard D&D model, you'd expect heroes to go off, fight a monster, and come back with lots more coins. I wonder why Jonathan didn't incorporate that.
