October 2025 Solo Games Review: Ratings, Awards, and More

Oct 31, 2025 | Reviews | 0 comments

Look back at the highlights from memorable solo games and the lessons to carry forward in this review of October 2025.

So many excellent solo games to choose from! October was a little spotty in terms of my plays and posts, and I have tons to write about from this past week when I’ve been on vacation. Yet those can wait until next month, as I wanted to look back on some of the highlights from this month and what made my solo table such a great time. Onto the memories and awards!

A Look at the Ratings

Per my usual reminder, my ratings often shift over time and only tell the partial story. I had a couple of ratings slightly change this month, and that reflects my current tastes.

Anything above 70% is typically a good game, while 80% is the threshold for a great game. Getting over 90% is a tricky thing, and these are usually some of my favorites.

Enjoy the appearance of the only solo game I’ve ever rated a 100%! It’s had that title for years. No surprise. Ha ha!

Sessions and other details typically give a much clearer picture of what I’m enjoying, yet here are the ratings!

Kicking the Warleggan Family to the Curb with a Halloween Calico Critter and Obsession
  • Obsession 100% 100%
  • Four Horsemen 97% 97%
  • Dungeon Run: Pocket 89% 89%
  • Oltréé 89% 89%
  • Cascadia 83% 83%
  • Sorcerer 83% 83%
  • Samurai Spirit 82% 82%
  • The Whatnot Cabinet 81% 81%
  • Canopy 71% 71%
  • Harrow County 59% 59%

The Award Goes To…

Although I didn’t play a ton of unique solo games during the month, I found that these all sort of fit into different award categories. Most of them won something. Very nice!

I’m still enjoying these categories, as they’re certainly a bit unusual, but help me look back at my favorites. Even games I don’t love still have a chance to be honored, too.

Looking back at the moments and feelings from these plays is always great to return to these recent memories.

I’ll still have to think about what to do at the end of the year… Special annual awards? A fun recap? We’ll see!

Monthly Highlights

Lots of old favorites made it back to my solo table, some for the first time in years! Oltréé, Samurai Spirit, and The Whatnot Cabinet were all delightful, familiar experiences.

Not surprisingly, some of my top games continued to earn their spots. Obsession works so well for me, and I have such a wonderful time battling the solo opponent families!

Four Horsemen is also a wildcard in that I never expected to enjoy it, yet the challenging puzzle is satisfying each time.

Lastly, Dungeon Run: Pocket turned out to be a great daily game and although I took a break, more plays are ahead!

Lessons of the Month

My favorites remain my favorites, although that means I can play a little more often. Some of these top titles have been sitting around for months or years. Goodness!

I’m appreciating simpler rules, too, especially those that are rather intuitive. It’s nice to return to a solo game I haven’t played in a long time, and barely need to check the rules.

Surprises still await in many forms, though. I can have fun with mechanics I might not have considered previously.

And as much as I love writing, sometimes it’s OK to build up a backlog of sessions in order to focus on just playing!

What were some of your favorite moments from your October 2025 solo games? Anything stand out or surprise you? It’s been a month with a lot of costumed Calico Critters and slightly spookier games for me! I had a nice time exploring some older or unplayed options. November should be packed with even more fun, as I have lots of plans to keep on playing!
